On October 7, 2007 Bishop Andrew Pataki, of the Passaic Eparchy, ordained Seminarian Frank Hanincik to the Minor Order of Candle-Bearer, Reader, and Cantor. The ordination took place during the Divine Liturgy at the pilgrimage to Our Lady of Mariopoch in Matawan, NJ, the monastery of the Basilian Fathers. Concelebrants for the Divine Liturgy were Fr. Ed Cimbala, Fr. Gerald Dino and Fr. Michael Mondik. One of Frank’s classmates from seminary, Daniel Forsythe of the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, served at the Liturgy.
The Order of Candle-Bearer, Reader, and Cantor is the first of the minor orders which leads to the major orders of Diaconate and Priesthood. This minor order gives the ordained the right to read the Epistle and Old Testament Readings during liturgical services as well as to chant the Psalms and other parts of the Liturgy of the Hours.
Lector Frank was originally from Hazleton, PA, baptized and chrismated at St. Mary Church. He attended public elementary school, followed by junior high school at St. John’s in Hazleton. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Before entering the seminary in 2003, he worked as a senior research technician at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He is currently a member of St. Ann Byzantine Catholic Church in Harrisburg, PA, where Fr. John Zeyack is pastor.

There is a growing trend today in the Church for men and women to hear the call to a particular vocation later in life. Frank is one of these vocations; he entered the seminary at the age of 41. Commenting on this, Frank said, “It’s important for people, whatever their age, to listen for God’s call and to be ready to respond generously.”
