From the far northwest to the slopes of Rus’ka Dolina, five men recently responded to the invitation to “Come and See” the Byzantine Catholic Seminary.
Visitors shared in a full cycle of worship including Vespers, Compline, Matins and Divine Liturgy and enjoyed communal meals prepared by the Seminary’s amateur chefs. Archpriest John G. Petro, Rector; Fr. George D. Gallaro, Coordinator of Seminary Life; Deacon Daniel Forsythe and seminarians Will Rupp, Diódoro Mendoza, Brian Lasky and Steven Galuschik presented the Seminary’s spiritual, intellectual, pastoral and personal formation programs and answered questions about life and learning at the Seminary. of biblical reflections on the theme of vocation and led the guests on a whirlwind tour of Pittsburgh including Sunday Divine Liturgy with the parish family of St Elias in Munhall, PA.
Come and See guests included Benjamin Crow (St John Chrysostom; Seattle WA), Daniel Baron (St George, Olympia WA), Rodney Wisen (Ss. Peter and Paul, Portage PA), Timothy Weber (St John Chrysostom, Pittsburgh PA) and Michael Simon (St Joseph Melkite, Scranton PA).
“Come and See” is an annual opportunity for men aged 16-25 to experience Seminary life, offered in cooperation with the Directors of Vocations of the Byzantine Ruthenian, Romanian and Melkite eparchies. Upcoming events include a “Vocation Discernment Weekend” for men (February 6-8, 2009) and “Spring Break at the Seminary,” an unstructured opportunity for college-aged men to visit the Seminary.
